Default GoDaddy screwing me

If it possible to renew my domain some where else.

I purchased a domain from godaddy for $12 the standard rate. I got an SEO analysis and they suggested to improve my ranking a little more i should increase the number of years i have my domain registered. I currently have it year to year, and they suggested pushing that 5 years out "this is supposed to show google i'm serious about the site".

So i got to spend about $60 to push the years out, but godaddy is charging me $20 per year to renew?? How come i have to pay more to renew per year, then registering.

could i move the domain somewhere else to register? is there a place for cheaper domain registrations and renewal?

Thanks,

That SEO analysis sounds shifty. Google doesnt look at the whois to see how long a domain is prepaid for. Domain age USED to be a big factor in SEO, but when the amount of domains dropping it was phased out the algo. I would suggest just adding relevant information to make your site more appealing to google and others who wish to link to your articles.

I also looked up GoDaddy's renewal fees for .us domains.

There are always GoDaddy renewal codes floating around the net to get a discount also.
